Mama Margaret is a seventy year old Samburu woman who lost her sight 10 years ago due to cataracts; she could not do even the simplest everyday tasks and hardly left her manyatta for fear of falling and hurting herself. In the summer of 2013 we suggested that she entrust herself to the magic hands of Elena Barraquer.

Margaret recovered her sight and since then, whenever we visit her, she embraces us with her bony arms and tries to put the little money she has into our pockets.  “I still cannot believe it”, she repeats.
